Here Comes Xpress: A Virtual Sports Game From The Pennsylvania Lottery

The Pennsylvania lottery is rapidly expanding the types of games it offers (to players 18 and above). Following the release of Keno, the latest exciting additions are Virtual Sports offerings called Xpress Sports, fast-paced games featuring new drawings every five minutes. Xpress Football and Xpress Car Racing are now up and running and on sale at all Pennsylvania Lottery retailers.

PA Lottery officials are committed to enhancing the lottery experience for Pennsylvania’s citizens, both player and non-player alike. As Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko said, “Following Keno’s very strong start, we expect that our Xpress Sports games will also be a big hit with our players. These games are part of our continuing mission to modernize our business and generate new funds to benefit older Pennsylvanians.”

Xpress Sports games are available exclusively at over 1500 PA Lottery brick and mortar retailers, where bettors can purchase tickets and watch the outcomes live. Lottery retailers include stores, bars, clubs and restaurants. If you don’t see them offered at your favorite hang-out, encourage the business to apply to become a Lottery retailer.

So what are virtual sports, exactly?

Virtual sports are relatively new. In this kind of wagering, bettors are really participating in a drawing that takes place every five minutes. The form of the drawing is radically different though, and much more exciting. Xsports games depict the outcome of randomized computer drawings using ultra-realistic animation in the form of a football drive or a car race. It gives the feeling of betting on football any time of year or betting on a race when you’re nowhere near a track.

The PA Lottery offers two types of Virtual Sports games and they result in quick outcomes. Xpress Football focuses on the results of a red-zone drive while Xpress Car Racing features twelve cars in a two-lap race.

Xpress Football

The PA Lottery’s Xpress Football game features two of eight fictional teams pitted against each other on a drive that begins inside the opponents 20-yard line. Each drive will last between one and seven plays, and will result in either a touchdown run, touchdown pass, field goal, or turnover. Players win prizes for correctly choosing which of the outcomes will occur, as well as which play it will occur on.

How much can you win?

For $1 wagered, players can win up to $250 and players can play up to 20 consecutive drives (or draws) on one ticket. Which prize is won and how much it pays can be seen on the following chart, which is based on $1 wagered. Players can wager up to $20 on each outcome, so multiply accordingly for higher bets.

How do you play Xpress Football?

To play Xpress Football, players must first visit a PA Lottery retailer and pick up a playslip (featured below).

The playslip has three sections that need to be filled out including:

  • the amount wagered for each outcome selected ($1, $2, $3, $4, $5, $10, and $20)
  • the number of consecutive drives (draws) wagered on (1 to 20)
  • the possible outcomes – each outcome the player selects increases the chances of being correct and increases the cost of the ticket

Xpress Car Racing

The PA Lottery’s Xpress Car Racing game features twelve fictional cars and drivers racing two laps around a virtual track – the Pennsylvania Lottery Speedway.

How much can you win?

Each race produces a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finisher. Players win prizes for correctly choosing the car numbers that will place, with a $250 prize (per $1 bet) going to players who select the top three finishers in exact order.

Like Xpress Football, players can play up to 20 consecutive races on one ticket. Prizes and pays can be seen on the following chart, again based on $1 wagered. Players can wager up to $20 on each race, so multiply accordingly for higher bets.

Finding out if you won and claiming your prize(s)

Of course, many players will simply stay and watch the results of their Xpress bets live at the PA Lottery retailer where they purchased their ticket. Those players who are on the go can simply visit the PA Lottery website to find the results of their games.

Prizes up to $2,500 can be claimed at any PA Lottery retailer – it doesn’t have to be the location where the ticket was purchased. Larger prizes can only be paid by the Lottery directly. Details can be found here.

Can PA Virtual Sports be found online?

Unfortunately, at this time neither Xpress Football or Xpress Car Racing are available online or through the PA iLottery.  They can only be found and played by visiting Pennsylvania’s brick and mortar Lottery retailers.

Despite the lack of PA Xpress games, the PA online lottery does feature over a dozen real money games that are very popular. New players even receive a free $5 bonus when signing up.
