There’s a new casino headed to Philly!
Expected to be completed in 2020, Stadium Casino is a new venture owned and operated by the Cordish Company (owners of Xfinity Live! and Maryland Live!) and their partners Greenwood Gaming & Entertainment Group (owners of Parx Casino).
What do we know right now?
The new casino will be located on the site of the former Holiday Inn on the corner of Packer Avenue and Darien Street in the “stadium area” of south Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The initial concept of the gaming project had it named “Philly Live!” in keeping with Cordish’s well known brand, but the final name seems to be the less exclamatory, “Stadium Casino.”
With an estimated price tag of $600 million, Stadium Casino is expected (according to Cordish officials) to be “a world-class hotel-casino that will complement the existing stadium district venues to create a destination like none other in the country.” To accomplish this, they will build a 220 room “boutique” hotel with a pool, spa, and fitness facilities, as well as a full casino.
The casino gaming area will be 200,000 square feet and feature 2,000 slot machines, 125 table games, and a 33 table poker room. The casino will be Vegas-style and open 24/7.
The property will feature six restaurants, ranging from “high-end options to a modern diner concept, a food court and a celebrity chef concept.” There will also be a 10,000 square foot, 1,000 person music venue with a rooftop party deck, as well as a 6,500 square foot private event space.
