As any player who plays the Pennsylvania lottery knows — second chance drawings are a big part of the Pennsylvania Lottery.
Now the PA Lottery is upping the ante with a huge second chance drawing called “Beat the Heat,” where the lottery will be giving players a chance to win up to $100,000 in prizes.
What you need to know to “Beat the Heat”
The best thing about Beat the Heat is that there is no extra cost to the PA player — all you need is a losing ticket.
Any losing ticket purchased between June 5th and August 2nd at eligible games may be used to enter the second chance drawing.
Players are able to submit an official entry code for every qualifying ticket. The number of entries players receive to the drawing will be “based on purchase prize and will be awarded upon submission.” In addition to entering codes towards Beat the Heat, some tickets will be randomly entered into the “Entry Doubler” second chance drawing.
A player receives one ticket to the Beat the Heat drawing for every $0.50 from the losing ticket. For example, a losing ticket that cost $2 will receive four entries into the drawing.
Should an entry code be drawn, the PA Lottery will contact winners through email within three days of the announcement of the winner.

Players can take part in Beat the Heat drawing by submitting losing tickets in a variety of Pennsylvania Lottery games including the following:
- Pick 2
- Pick 3
- Pick 4
- Cash 5
- Match 6
- Cash4Life
- Powerball
- Mega Millions
How to find second chance entry code
If a lottery ticket is a loser, refer to the back of the lottery ticket for your second chance code, a 25-digit code comprising of numbers and capital letters. See an example provided by the Pennsylvania Lottery below.
Codes can be scanned via the PA Lottery App or by entering the number through the Beat the Heat webpage once signed into the PA Lottery VIP Players Club.

In addition to the PA Lottery’s $100,000 Beat the Heat Grand Prize, the lottery will also be awarding over 40 additional prizes.
