Just in time for the start of the 2019 NFL season, FoxBet became the 5th online sportsbook to open in the state last week. The sportsbook comes to the state as a rebranded BetStars, which was previously the online sports betting home of The Stars Group, the parent company of PokerStars.
The news comes on the heels of BetStars rebranding FoxBet in neighboring New Jersey during the prior week, likely timed with the launch in Pennsylvania. The announcement comes a few months after a partnership was announced between Fox Sports and The Stars Group. As part of that deal, the Fox corporation acquired around 5% of stock in The Stars Group. The deal also contains a condition that would give Fox an option of acquiring a 50% stake in the company within the next 10 years.
In addition to the impact from the household name of Fox, which is much more familiar to those in the United States than BetStars, FoxBet will integrate sports Fox Sports content and analysis from Fox Sports on-air personalities taking from the network’s trove of talent including Chris Carter and Collin Cowherd.

Unlike many PA casinos that have choosen to open up retail sportsbooks first, there is not yet a FoxBet sportsbook physically located at Mount Airy, although one is anticipated.

With the launch of FoxBet, the sportsbook joins an ever-growing list of online and mobile sportsbooks that have opened in the state over the last few months:
- PlaySugarHouse, the online sportsbook home from Rivers Casino Philadelphia, recently rebranded from SugarHouse Casino
- BetRivers, the online sportsbook home from Rivers Casino Pittsburgh
- Parx Online, the online sportsbook home from Parx Casino
- FanDuel, the online sportsbook home from Valley Forge
- FoxBet, the online sportsbook home from Mount Airy
A handful of additional PA casinos are expected to go live with sportsbooks of their own in the coming weeks and months. Harrah’s Philadelphia and Penn National’s Hollywood Casino are some of the most notable PA casinos that have not yet opened up their online sportsbook.
